By Association Only

Ever find that you associate songs with certain people?  Rainmaker, Blinded, Sgt. Major, How to Save a Life, I Miss You, I’m Lost Without You. …to name just a few.  They might not be the greatest works of music, but they’ve become engraved with peoples’ names.  I wonder what song people associate me with…

outside inside

get out of bed. wake up

never ready to get up, but willing.  5 minutes though

just 5 more minutes

just a moment!

lets mentally slow ourselves

so i set the clock backward

wish this hospital was outdoors

free of walls, free of boundaries, softer floors

it’s just too beautiful to keep anyone left inside

outside inside.  lets open the inside to the outside

i’m awake i’m awake

don’t worry

Geri

*Have you ever driven to drive? Drive to get *driven*.*

I’m becoming more comfortable working at Parker. It’s a predominantly elderly population where the most popular mode of transportation isn’t by foot, but by wheelchair. Upon getting off the elevator, there’s a juke box that’s most likely set to play Frank Sinatra. There’s often a grand piano outside the elevators too, which I’ve been attempted to play over the past two days. It’s like a retirement home, but with residents that need just a bit more care.

The worst thing about this place is that it’s 20 years behind; there are barely any computers on the floors! It’s terribly difficult to look at labs or past medical history forms. Their system is inefficient, and they need to increase their accuracy by using an electronic medical record system. Their current system overworks their doctor’s and nurses. It’s time consuming to look through pages of chicken scratch. (I spend about an hour on average deciphering words in the chart!) I could have seen more patients with that extra time OR taken an extra long lunch break. Both sound great! I witnessed a fall this morning. After the fall, I was just hoping…praying that the pt was alright…falls are the 6th leading cause of death among elderly. I fully support bubble suits. Just kidding, I just hate to see these patients who have lived through so much suffer through the complications of a fall. It just stops their life in more words than the obvious.

Hello August

After a long July, I decided that this would be MY weekend. The weekend where I would wake up whenever, make awesome meals, and explore my neighborhood. Most of all, it would be the weekend that I would relax. Well lets backtrack to see why…

On Friday, I took a terrible exam that encompassed everything you could think of in medicine. YES, IT WAS HORRIBLE. After finishing the exam, I decided that I STILL NEED to study despite finishing my internal medicine rotation. No worries though, it was only my first rotation. THANK GOODNESS.

Yesterday I rode my bike to the local market, coffee shop, and then back home for some quality viewage of the Food Network. :) Later, I went to Red Sky for a friend’s birthday. Good times.

Today! Today! LISTEN UP! I didn’t wake up until 1 pm. How does that even happen? Now I know I gave this weekend to myself and I allowed myself to wake up whenever…but to wake up midday! damn. An achievement right there.

I’m absolutely fascinated by this designers name.   http://venacavanyc.com/

I have to admit the vena cava is quite a lovely vessel.  I just never thought it would become a brand.  It tis quite a lovely name isn’t?

To add even more strangeness to this post, let me tell you about a coffee shop I discovered yesterday.  It’s called Panorama.  It’s a place that I could imagine myself  writing short stories and poetry.  Okay perhaps I don’t have time to do either, but I did write history and physical’s, SOAP notes, and filled in CBASE while I was there.  I didn’t think I’d find such a perfect coffee shop.  It includes bright wall paint, a piano, and a wall covered with guinness world record awards.  Here’s the crazy thing- all these records were achieved by this man:  http://www.ashrita.com/records/index.html (directs you to his page of records)  Can you believe those records?  Unbelieveable.  One commenter asked, “what does he do in real life?”  The same question ran through my mind, but who cares…I need to know that someone can balance 223 cigar boxes on his chin.  :)

tada!
