Friday Night – Lily Allen

I’m excited that people are reading my blog.  For awhile, I’ve had a somewhat small audience, since writing for me was always very personal. Based on entries that I’ve written before, I wrote about my FEELINGS way too often.  [especially the hormonal, sensitive ones]
Although life can be overwhelming, I try to write at least once every two days now.  Most of these entries don’t get ‘published’ due to lack of quality or no desire on my part for others’ to read my nonsense.
With the idea of an audience, I have the urge to write more.  Show myself.
Me.
I’ve grown a lot this semester, moreso than ever before.  I feel stronger and more independent. I want to do more things to challenge myself.  With the upcoming year, I have so many goals set out.  I want to give myself the time I never received before from myself.  …If that makes sense at all. I’ve spent so much time caring about how others’ feel, that my thoughts have gotten lost.  Well, it’s time to explore myself and become a better me.

With of course some major spoonage along the way… :)

So Mod

I think there’s a little home designer in me.

I just wish everything weren’t so modern; I love classic styles and warm colors.  The last picture shows an ideal location for all the furniture but the colors are all wrong.  (at least for me)

From Leilo and Keiko

Isn’t simply amazing?  My littles crossover-ed on Friday night and presented me with this gorgeous paddle.  I’ll continue taking more pictures to fully bring out the colors within this ARTPIECE (because that is what it is).

So I wanted to explain why their names were chosen, since if I do it another week, I’ll completely forget since my brain will be engorged with information about cDNA libraries.

Keiko (Rianne)

  • Blessed/Joyful/Respectful Child
  • Japanese
  • DEM is THE place to explore new things and meet people who will be within EVERY class of yours.  Over the next few years, I’m positive you’ll look back upon your 4 years and realize how great this organization has been for you.  With that, I know you love to explore new things, and being a part of DEM is a great opportunity for you.
  • Movie connection:  The orca from FREE WILLY was actually named Keiko.  A group of people wanted to release him back into the wild.  With this release, he had to learn so many new things and get assimilated into a new environment.  Although you haven’t been in captivity (not at all), you share the connection of wanting to experience new things and becoming a part of something more related to your future field.

Leilo (Teresa)

  • Generous one
  • Hawaiian
  • Derived from Lilo
  • You are the paragon of everything generous, and it would be hard to express that in any form, even a name.  It was very difficult coming up with a name for you since, nothing amounted to who you are…you’re parents were lucky since they didn’t know you after you were delivered.  (seriously)  =P
  • Move connection: Within the Disney feature, Lilo and Stitch the main message which was originally unintended, was the idea of “family.”  A direct quote from the movie is “Ohana means family.  Family means no one is left behind – or forgotten.”  As the movie continues, Lilo protects Stitch from being captured, and more family members are added to Lilo’s family.  This idea of family is something that I correlate directly to you, since I know you have contacted many members of DEM.  They love you and your generous personality just as I do.  In the future, I’m sure you’ll do an amazing job making this organization a “home” for others as well.

Welcome to the family both of you.  <3

P.S. Notice how this entry is in the Family category :)

Turk

I’ve been trying out this new program called Q10, which is surprisingly one of the simplest word processors available.  It’s perfect for people like myself, who continuously get distracted by facebook, aim, or youtube.  So what is it?  Basically, you’re just writing on a completely black screen.  You can even turn up the volume to hear the sound of typewriter.  Ancient right?  If I were that obnoxious kid in class, I would definitely open up this program and begin typing with sound.  I’ve been thinking about that idea all day…

Thanksgiving weekend (+2 days) was great this year!  I’m pretty sure this will sound strange, but THE TURKEY WAS MAD JUICY.  Everything tasted amazing…from the mashed potatoes, garlic bread, stuffing to the apple crisp…mmm Overall, it was one of the best thanksgivings I’ve had, which gives me all those good-lala-deedah feelings.

Over break, Derek and I watched 4-5 episodes of 30 Rock.  I CAN’T BELIEVE I’VE BEEN MISSING OUT THIS WHOLE TIME!  I highly recommend watching these episodes.  Tina Fey is the writer of this series, as well as one of the main characters.  Check out the shows on hulu.com.
Okay, since I stay up too late, I ought to be getting to bed.  Goodnight America :)
