This song represents this past semester. No, it’s not the lyrics or even my slight obsession with the French. I’m not even completely sure, but this song strikes the cord.
The one about the pin
I’m going to handle you carefully.
As if your heart were in my hands
Ever so gently I would help control and synchronize its beats
Help it breathe, make it run, let it live
hello beautiful life
Many great things have happened in the past couple of weeks. MANY.
First and foremost, I was ACCEPTED INTO PA SCHOOL! I went to Stony Brook University on November 8th and had 2 twenty minute interviews, followed by presentations and tours. Altogether the day lasted about 4-5 hours. Three days later, and probably the most tear-happy day EVER, November 11th, I received a phone call! It happened to be one of my second interviewers who called me. She said that she wanted to offer me a spot within their PA program…and I had no words…seriously, I was rather speechless. ANYWAYS, I’M IN!
WOOHOO! Regardless of getting into PA school, I have SPENT A LOT of money. Applying to schools in general is expensive, but lets take into consideration all of the other expenses:
- GRE class
- GRE
- Send out GRE scores
- CASPA application + schools added
- Supplemental applications
- Travel expenses (gas/food)
- Hotel
I’m going to start a support group for all those suffering from ‘applying costs.’ It’s ridiculous how awful the prices are these days. Of course gas prices are decreasing, but costs for ETS exams AND tuition are astronomical. YES, ASTRONOMICAL. I like that word. I think all students should riot and refuse to take these exams. AND refuse to attend classes. Neither of which are going to happen, but it’s just a thought.
So Stonybrook University is set in Long Island; 20 minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from the Hamptons, and 50 minutes from the city. It’s affiliated with all the NY hospitals, meaning it has great connections. They recently opened up their clinical site in 2006, so I’ll basically be learning on fairly new equipment. I’ll be moving to New York probably in June.
I’M SO EXCITED!
Getting into PA school allows me to drop some classes next semester! Okay, only one, but it makes the world of difference to my schedule. This allows me time to gain more money. I’m looking around at various babysitting/dog sitting jobs on sittercity.com. FAST money. With these side jobs, I hope to increase my funds for fun activities.
Classes have been going well thus far, but the projects have built up in a pile within my mental storage space. I cannot believe how quickly this semester has gone. And to think, I was worried about where i would be going and where life would take me a couple of months/years ago.
Okay my eyes are stinging a bit, time for some great sleep!

Dear God,
Please send me this child when I turn 35. (Just like her, including accent and imagination)
Love,
Marian
I’m fairly nervous for my interview this Saturday. Every time I think about the 5 hours in which I’ll be surrounded by people watching me is a bit nerve-wrecking. I want this so badly. I want to be a part of this field, I want to learn, diagnose, and most important, share my compassion to everyone. I WANT THIS. and that’s why Saturday needs to turn out great.
